Floral Park-Bellerose UFSD Board of Education  

 

The Floral Park-Bellerose Board of Education consists of five members, each elected by the District’s citizenry, to a three-year term of office. Board members serve without pay and, representing the children and community, are responsible for the formulation of educational and School District policies, preparation for voter approval of the District’s annual budget and adherence to State Law and State Education Department regulations. As residents and neighbors, Board members share a vested interest in providing an enriched learning experience for all District students.

Two members of the Board of Education, Mrs. Beth Kierez and Mrs. Rose Peltonen, serve on the Sewanhaka Central High School District (SCHSD) Board of Education, addressing the needs of our student population, grades 7–12.

Regular Board of Education meetings are held each month at the John Lewis Childs School. Special monthly Workshop meetings are held at the Floral Park-Bellerose School library and afford the Board an additional opportunity to discuss and explore important areas requiring their attention. All meetings are open to the public and are listed in this calendar. Public Participation at Board of Education Meetings

In its discretion, the Board of Education permits public participation at Regular Board meetings in accordance with Board Policy 1510. All visitors who wish to participate in the public comment period are asked to limit their questions/statements to three minutes during the public comment section. Please be mindful that students may be participants at this meeting both in person and via ZOOM. Please be respectful both during the meeting and during the public comment section. Accordingly, the Board will respond to comments/questions when the information is available. However, please understand, in some cases, we would need sufficient time to process and research issues and report back to you.

Mrs. Beth Kierez, President

Mrs. Kierez was elected to the Board of Education in 2021. Mrs. Kierez has lived in the district for 15+ years. Mrs. Kierez is a High School Assistant Principal and an Adjunct Professor. She and her husband reside in the community with their four children. Mrs. Kierez was appointed to serve on the Sewanhaka Central High School Board of Education for the 2023-24 school year. Mrs. Kierez will serve on the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee for the 2023-24 school year.

Ms. Jaclyn M. O'Donohue, Vice President

Mrs. O'Donohue was elected to the Board of Education in 2021. Mrs. O'Donohue has lived in the district for 34+ years and is a graduate of the John Lewis Childs School and Floral Park Memorial High School. Mrs. O'Donohue is a Registered Nurse and mother of three children. Mrs. O'Donohue will serve on the Safety Committee, the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee and the Technology Committee for the 2023-24 school year. Mrs. O'Donohue will serve as the Board Advocacy Liaison for New York State School Boards Association.

Mr. Michael L. Culotta, Trustee

Mr. Culotta was elected to the Board of Education in 2019. Mr. Culotta and his wife has lived in the District for 4+ years and they have two children. Mr. Culotta is an attorney and his practice has focused on large-scale infrastructure projects throughout the United States. Mr. Culotta will serve on the Budget Advisory Committee and the Policy Committee for the 2023-24 school year.

Mrs. Rose Peltonen, Trustee

Mrs. Peltonen was elected to the Board of Education in 2022. Mrs. Peltonen has lived in the District for 20+ years. Mrs. Peltonen began her teaching career in the NYC Board of Education in 1989 and retired from the Floral Park-Bellerose School District in 2021. She has taught all elementary grades (Pre K-6th). Mrs. Peltonen resides in the community with her husband and daughter. Mrs. Peltonen was appointed to serve on the Sewanhaka Central High School Board of Education for the 2023-24 school year. Mrs. Peltonen will serve on the Policy Committee, the Safety Committee and the Wellness Committee for the 2023-24 school year.

Mrs. Laura J. Trentacoste, Trustee

Mrs. Trentacoste was elected to the Board of Education in 2017. She has lived in the district for 20+ years. Mrs. Trentacoste is a graduate of Floral Park-Bellerose School and Floral Park Memorial High School. Mrs Trentacoste is a writer. She and her husband reside in the community with their three children. Mrs. Trentacoste has served as Board Trustee, Board Vice President and President. Mrs. Trentacoste will serve on the Budget Advisory Committee, the Wellness Committee and the Technology Committee for the 2023-24 school year. Mrs. Trentacoste will serve as the Board Delegate for Nassau BOCES.
